Would you love to make clothes but find patterns impossible to understand?
Over one-day we will demystify the dressmaking process, sending you home ready to tackle your next project, with a beautiful, timeless, shift dress and personalised pattern!
We will cover every aspect of the process from choosing the right size and pattern cutting, through to seam finishes, and with no zips or buttonholes to worry about we won't have to rush!
- In the morning we will transfer the pattern to specialist pattern paper, adjusting the fit, and then sewing the pattern together to check the fit.
- In the afternoon, with your adjusted pattern now ready, you will make your dress.
Use your own fabrics or pick one of ours (you will save 15% on the cost of the fabric if you opt to buy from us).
Choosing Your Fabric
- Medium weight cottons will give you a structured, defined shape.
- Cotton lawn, rayon, chambray or poplin will give you a more floaty feel.
- Denim or thicker linens will give you a very defined shape.

- 115cm wide fabric - 2.75mtrs (all sizes)
- 140cm wide fabric - 1.7mtrs (sizes 8-12) 2.1mtrs (sizes 14-20)

If you would like to use your discount to buy one of our fabrics for your dress, please contact us in advance of the course as we will need to get the fabric washed, ready for the lesson, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Where Are Lessons Held?
Sewing lessons are held in Ducklington, just outside of Witney. Details of the address are sent out with joining instructions approx 1 week before your lesson. The venue has onsite parking and is all on one level.
If you are booking a one to one lesson, or organising a group event of your own, we can hold the lesson in Ducklington (upto 4 people), on Cogges in Witney (upto 2 people) or at a venue of your choice.
Do I Need a Sewing Machine?
If you have a sewing machine we recommend using it, you will feel more confident and comfortable when back at home if you don't have to worry about differences between machines.
If you don't have a sewing machine or don't want to bring yours, we have lots of machines available for you to borrow.
Just let us know at the time of booking whether you are going to bring your machine or use one of ours.
How Big Are The Classes?
We have a maximum of 4 students in each class, with 1-2 teachers, giving everyone lots of one to one support.
Is Fabric Included?
For the majority of our lessons, you can choose to bring your own fabric or buy fabric, at a discount, from us. For a small number of lessons, fabric is included. If you are not sure if fabric is included or not please consult the particular lesson’s webpage, or contact us using the form on this page and we will be happy to advise.
If your course includes fabric, we will contact you approx 1 week before the course to ask for your fabric choices.
If you want to buy your fabric from us using the available discount, contact us using the form on this page and we can arrange for an invoice to be raised with the discount applied.
Payment is required at the point of booking your place on one of our workshops or sewing courses.
If you need to cancel up to 3 weeks before the start of the class, we will offer you the choice of transferring to another date, or a refund minus a £15 cancellation fee (if we manage to sell the place this reduces to £5).
If you need to cancel within 3 weeks of the start date, we are sorry but we cannot offer you a refund or transfer. With less than 3 week's notice it is difficult for us to fill places and it isn't fair on other people who would have liked a place, had they had more notice. We can put you on a reserve list for a future date, and if we still have spaces 3 weeks before the start of a course, we will slot you in at no additional cost.
If you are attending a course which is more than one session long and you are unable to attend one or more session, we will support you to complete the missed work at home, if you want to make up the time with a one to one lesson it will be £25 per lesson.
